Anderson Soybean Test Plot

This plot is located 5-6 miles north of Wheaton along Hwy 75. Like the other bean plots, it received frost before it really wanted it.  The results:

P10T02r was top in plot with P19T91r  and 90M80 right behind. Again the late-maturing varieties didn't make it, and again the mid-group 1.0 maturity beans were at the top.

Jorschumb SB Plot

Jorschumb's soybean plot is right next to Wheaton on the NE side along the Wheaton/Norcross tar. It was a real nice plot but was planted late and had some frost. The results:

P10T02r was top yielder at 62.4 bu/a with a good showing by 90M80 also. This is the first plot or field info where P10T91r wasn't at or near the top. Just shows that one plot location is not enough to get good info. You need multiple locations and multiple fields to get a good read on some of these varieties. Note also that the worst yield was a 2.2 maturity bean that obviously took a big hit from frost. We always like to see how far we can push things here in Traverse County and obviously a 2.2 maturity bean is too far!

This plot also had a comparison of different seed treatments applied to 91Y10. The results:

2030/PPST Treated - 57.7 bu/a
WC150 Treated       - 55.0 bu/a
WECO Treated       -  54.3 bu/a
Marauder Treated   -  54.4 bu/a
MegaPack Treated  - 52.9 bu/a

As you can see, the 2030/PPST Treatment which we use here at South Valley Seed was the highest yielder and along with our other treatment plot, confirms that we are recommending and using the right seed treatment.

2014 Soybean Seed Treatment Plot

As we do every year, we planted a plot comparing seed treatments on beans to non-treated seed. Over the last 6 years we have compared non-treated to treated over 75 times with a yield advantage to the treated soybeans over 80% of the time. The first set of results is with no starter fertilizer applied in-furrow. The second set of results is with starter fertilizer and an in-furrow product from West Central Chemical.
Here are the results:

Again this year, we have had a response to seed treatment. The lowest yield is the untreated check and the highest is the seed treatment that we use at South Valley Seed. It is consistent with our recommendations of using a seed treatment, put it on. The return won't change your lifestyle, but it can enhance it!

These set of results are the same treatments but with a starter fertilizer applied also. The results:

The only thing that sticks out is that the fertilizer had no effect other than possibly a negative effect on yield for certain treatments. The treatment that we use, PPST, had no negative effect on it at all.

2014 Yost/Sorenson Soybean Plot

This soybean plot was planted about 4 miles northwest of Wheaton. Plot got a pretty stiff frost before harvest and all moistures were about the same at 12.5% - 12.7%.
The results are:

The higher maturity beans at the end had obvious hail damaged beans in the sample. P10T91r was the highest yielder with 2 other "T" Series beans right behind.

Sorenson SB Test Plot North Weaton

Had a chance on Oct 2 to take our first soybean test plot off. This plot is northwest of Wheaton 4 miles. Nice ground but got nipped pretty hard by the frost earlier. The soybeans looked beautiful and we expected a little higher yields (believe it or not) for the plot but the frost took off the top end of yield we think.
The results are:

The high variety here is one of our new T-Series beans in the 1.0 maturity range. A reminder, the the two numbers after the P is the maturity. For example, Pioneer P15T83r has a 15 after the P which makes it a 1.5 maturity bean, Pioneer P10T02 has a 10 after the P so it is a 1.0 bean. The later maturing beans seem to have had their yield potential nipped by the frost here.

Southern Minnesota Yields

We have all heard how good the soybean crop is south of us so thought we'd show you a yield test from southern Minnesota to show you what yields are doing down there.

Pioneer P15T83r  -  69.7 bu/a - 13.2%
Pioneer P13T99r  -  76.0 bu/a - 13.1%

Guess they do have a great crop! This is from the Hills, Mn area by the Iowa border. All three of these varieties are in our soybean plots too. It'll be hard to beat those yields!

Soybean Side X Sides

In a field out on the county line between Traverse and Grant County, there were a number of side x side comparisons made. It is not a plot and shouldn't be taken that way as the comparisons were quite a ways apart.

Soil was Red River Valley clay loam. High IDC and SCN but would still rate this ground as pretty good, not a real challenged field.
